Shailer Park Wetland was designed and built by the Water & Carbon Group in 2014 with a goal of efficiently improving the quality of the storm water entering the Logan River while providing strong value to the community through maximising parkland and creating a forest adjacent to an active recreational space.
Community bird watching groups visit the wetland regularly due to the amount of wildlife activity the site attracts. The boardwalk and walking tracks surrounding the wetland also see regular use by the community and provide a green aesthetic for people using the neighbouring recreational space.
The wetland and riparian restoration has created a unique ecological asset for the Shailer Park community and is strong example of how degraded sites can be transformed to provide long-term community value.
