Narrogin (1ML/day) WWTP Upgrade

One of Australia’s lowest energy sewage treatment upgrades, The Water and Carbon Group’s solution comprises a new advanced plastic media trickling filter, and a 20,000m2 high-density treatment wetland. The plant will use approximately 50% less energy than activated sludge plants with equivalent performance.

Helidon Sewage Treatment Wetland

Queensland Urban Utilities (QUU)/TRILITY | Design & Construct + 2 years management

The Water and Carbon Group created a constructed wetland, bringing Helidon (1000EP) Waste Stabilisation Pond effluent quality into consistent license compliance for BOD, SS, and pH. The capital cost of using a treatment wetland was more than 50% lower than alternative solutions considered by QUU.

Aratula Sewage Treatment Wetland

Queensland Urban Utilities (QUU)/TRILITY | Design & Construct + 2 years management

The Water and Carbon Group designed and built a 4000m2 Constructed Wetland to make final effluent quality produced from Aratula’s (500EP) Waste Stabilisation Pond licence compliant, before discharge to the environment.
The system was designed as a pure gravity system, with only minimal electricity needed for a small chlorine dosing unit.

Sundrop Decentralised Sewage treatment plant

The design and construction of a decentralised Reed Bed sewage treatment plant was undertaken by The Water and Carbon Group. This plant was built to service Sundrop’s $150m+ green house complex in Port Augusta.

Maleny Effluent disposal scheme

GHD/Unitywater | Detailed design

The Water and Carbon Group produced a detailed design for of a 13ha biodiversity effluent disposal forest, and a 3ha polishing wetland. The project provided multi-value outcomes beyond the core purpose of sustainable disposal, including environmental restoration and community walking tracks.

Regional STP upgrade Trickling Filter/wetland upgrade options

The Water and Carbon Group conducted an options study assessing several low energy wastewater treatment solutions that could be considered for a 30ML/day STP upgrade. Options evaluated included plastic media trickling filters, constructed wetlands and waste stabilisation ponds.

Inglewood STP Effluent Disposal Options Study

A preliminary concept design and budget costing was prepared, outlining potential options for upgrade and management of the Inglewood STP. Options included upgrading the existing pond arrangements with nutrient removal constructed wetlands, and implementing a land based effluent disposal scheme.

Agnes Waters Effluent disposal strategy

The Water and Carbon Group investigated ways to optimise and re-establish a forest land disposal system at the Agnes Waters Sewage Treatment Plant (STP). The existing disposal area had been challenged by fire damage, weed invasion and wet season peak flow management.

Musselroe Bay ecotourism development – Wastewater Treatment Concept design

The Water and Carbon Group prepared a concept design of a suitable sustainable wastewater treatment and disposal solution for an ecotourism development. The total project development had a value of $185M.

NQ Mining town wastewater treatment options study

Concept designs were created to outline several upgrade options for a 150kL/day WWTP that services a mining community. The solutions used existing final effluent lagoon assets as part of a waste stabilisation pond arrangement, with the addition of a 3000m2 constructed wetland.

Integrated Wastewater Strategy for 10,000EP development

A low energy wastewater infrastructure strategy (treatment and disposal) was designed as part of the planning stage of a 10,000EP development in SE QLD. The solution was shown to have a 20-35 per cent cost saving compared to high energy MBR technologies, with a sustainable approach to final effluent reuse and disposal.
