Ian Klug | CHAIRMAN  BA BCom FCA FAICD

Ian is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. A former director of the Wide Bay Water Corporation, Ian sat on the Audit and Risk Committee. He is Chairman of Place Design Group, the Lord Mayor’s Economic Development Steering Committee, and Brisbane Marketing. Previous roles and appointments include Partner of Pitcher Partners Chartered Accountants, Chairman of Queensland Artworkers Alliance, Director of Tennis Queensland and Councillor of Tennis Australia.

Peter Mann | NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR B.Ec., University of W.A; MBA, Melbourne Business School

Peter is the Principal Sustainability Consultant for global engineering firm, MWH. Prior to joining MWH, Peter gained experience as a consultant with Boston Consulting Group; as a stockbroker with Patterson Ord Minnett; and as Retail Business Development Manager for Macquarie Bank (VIC). Peter served as President of the AFL Player¹s Association and was a professional AFL footballer for 10 years, captaining Fremantle in 1997 and 1998.

Andrew Wilson | NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR BBA (RMIT), ACMA

Andrew is Managing Director of Wolf Capital Pty Ltd, and a Director at E3 Sustainable Investments.  Previously, Andrew was Head of Finance – Business in Eastern Europe for a major global FMCG group.  Andrew has more than 16 years of business experience with leading national and multi -national companies. He has held both domestic and international appointments, primarily in Europe.

Patrick O’Brien | NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR  LL.B (Melb), B.Com (Melb), Grad. Dip Applied Finance (ASIA), MBA (Harvard)

Patrick is Chairman of Micro-X (ASX: MX1), and a Director of the O’Brien Capital Group and Red Rock Leisure. Patrick has more than 25 years of business experience spanning Australia, the UK, Western Europe, Asia and the US. As an Executive Director with Macquarie Group, he led teams in corporate finance (Melbourne 1996-2005) and private equity (London 2005-2009). In the latter role, Patrick was responsible for overseeing Macquarie’s controlling stakes in companies with a total value of more than $10 billion. Prior to Macquarie, Patrick was a strategy consultant with McKinsey & Company and a lawyer with Minter Ellison.

Jim Hunter | CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER  B. Ag Ec, University of New England; MBA, Queensland University of Technology; GAICD

Jim draws on 21 years of commercial experience to grow The Water and Carbon Group’s reputation as the carbon sequestration and water treatment provider of choice for Australian organisations. His background spans roles in a range of industries, including companies such as leading global agribusiness Monsanto. Jim has also held CEO and executive roles in Centrogen, Genos, and The Farmshed. His early career in sales, marketing and product development gave him a deep understanding of all levels of business, giving him a strong awareness of customer needs and considerations. Jim has also developed and implemented commercialisation strategies for several university and CSIRO created technologies.

Allister Whatmough | PROJECT DIRECTOR B.Eng (Civil), University of Auckland; Member of RPEng and RPEQ

Allister is a highly proficient project director with over 30 years of experience within the civil infrastructure construction industry. Throughout his career he has managed the construction of large infrastructure projects as well as a number of water and wastewater treatment plants. Allister’s experience within the field has provided him with a strong knowledge in design and construction methodologies for stormwater and sewage reticulation and along with earth dam construction. Allister adds a vast amount of knowledge and experience to the team at the Water and Carbon Group and is essential for constructing high quality, sustainable water treatment systems for our clients.

David Leinster | SOLUTIONS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER B.Eng (Chemical), University of Queensland; GradDip (Science), University of New England

David is a chemical engineer with over 18 years’ experience in design and construction of wastewater treatment, bioenergy, biosolids management, and resource recovery projects. He has worked in a broad range of industries including municipal water and wastewater, food and beverage, pulp and paper, mining and dedicated waste to energy facilities. During this time, he completed projects spanning from Australia to the South Pacific, Europe and South East Asia. David’s breadth of knowledge and broad skill base is highly advantageous in developing effective and innovative solutions for the Water and Carbon Group.

Sarah Costello | BUSINESS & SUSTAINABILITY MANAGER  BA (PACS), University of Queensland; MEnvMan (Master of Environmental Management, Conservation and Natural Resources Management), University of Queensland 

Sarah is an environmental management and sustainability professional working across the water, waste, emerging contaminants, low carbon economy and environmental services industries. She currently leads the business and sustainability departments at the WCG, developing sustainable business initiatives both within the group and across our various departments. Sarah’s work is vital in integrating our business activities with our core values and goals.

Clifford Duckworth | PFAS Development Manager BEng(EnvEng) (Chemical), RMIT University; Cert IV (Project Management); CPEng, Institute of Engineers Australia; RPEQ, BPEQ

Clifford is an environmental engineer with close to 10 years of experience working largely within roles pertaining to the design, construction and management of remediation systems for contaminated land and water. In recent times, he has completed several highly regarded PFAS treatment projects for top-tier clients throughout Australia. Clifford’s advanced industry knowledge and pragmatic approach towards the treatment of industrial waste streams makes him an essential asset for growing the LEEF™ System within Australia’s expanding PFAS market.

Chris Roberts | SENIOR PROCESS ENGINEER Bsc (Applied Microbiology) (Hon), Liverpool John Moores University; MEng (Water and Wastewater Engineering), Griffith University; PCAppLaw (Applied Construction & Engineering Law), Queensland University of Technology

Chris is a highly qualified process engineer with a background in microbiology, adding over 20 years of experience within the water and wastewater industries to the team at the Water and Carbon Group. Throughout his professional career he has gained a wealth of experience in operating and upgrading a variety of water and wastewater treatment plants for both private and government entities. His specialties also include treatment plant design and policy (Water Quality, Process Upgrades and Compliance Investigation). Chris’s knowledge and experience is essential for creating effective ecologically based water treatment solutions for the Water and Carbon Group.

Paul Patterson | PROJECT MANAGER

Paul brings more than 30 years of experience in construction to his role with The Water and Carbon Group. After starting his career as a tradesman, he has progressed through Project Administration, Contract Administration, Project Management and Construction Management work, giving him exceptional project knowledge.

Daniel Cole | PROJECT ECOLOGIST BHortSc (Horticultural Science), Western Sydney University; CERP (Certified Ecological Restoration Practitioner). 

Dan’s proven background assisting with the project management of civil landscape and ecological restoration projects makes him an asset to our customers. He has a strong botanical background with diversified landscape, reforestation and horticultural experience, both in Australia and abroad. Throughout his time at the Water and Carbon Group, he has been instrumental in the completion of several well-known projects such as the Two Million Trees Project and Slacks Creek Restoration Project. Dan is also one of the first Australians to become a certified ecological restoration practitioner from the Society for Ecological Restoration.

Annabelle Larkin | OFFICE & PROJECT ADMINISTRATOR

Annabelle is an office & project administrator with over 5 years’ experience working within the forestry industry in New Zealand. Throughout this time, she has developed an acute understanding of contracts and client relations along with a keen interest in health, safety & HR. Annabelle’s expertise is essential in supporting the company-wide, day-to-day and project operations of the Water and Carbon Group.

Robert Mckenzie | SENIOR DESIGNER B.ASc (Hon), Southern Cross University; MEng, Griffith University

Robert has over 20 years’ experience in Ecological Engineering and Ecosystem Services, which he brings to the Water and Carbon Group. Throughout his career he has led multiple wetland design and ecosystem restoration teams, most notably for the award winning Unity Water Bio diverse Forest & Treatment Wetland in Maleny, along with the innovative ecological treatment of leachate for Sydney Olympic Park. Rob has also spent time lecturing at Griffith University on ecological engineering amidst conducting a range of scientific research projects on passive treatment systems and effluent reuse. His expert knowledge within the field makes him a highly valuable part of the Water and Carbon Team.

Jack is a recent business management graduate from the University of Queensland, specialising in B2B marketing and strategy. His knowledge of the digital marketing landscape is instrumental in expanding the Water and Carbon Group’s online presence and providing added value to stakeholders.

Steen Nielsen | BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER Department of Wastewater and Sludge Treatment | Orbicon A/S (Danish Consulting Company) 

Steen has specialised in the implementation and management of Sludge Treatment Reed Bed Systems for domestic and industrial sludge since 1988. Over this time, Steen has managed the construction, rebuilding  and operation of more than 80 large full scale and test systems in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, England, Australia, New Zealand and Poland. His research and work with many universities has been instrumental in developing key guidelines for the operation and emptying of STRB systems, along with authoring and co-authoring over 50 papers and presentations.

 

Justin Doyle

Justin Doyle | LEADING PROCESS ENGINEER CONSULTANT  Director, Wastewater Futures P/L 

Justin is an integral team member of WCG design and research efforts. He has worked for 15 years as a process engineering consultant and researcher in the areas of industrial & municipal wastewater treatment and process development, specifically for the municipal, food, steel, mineral processing, oil & gas, pulp & paper and landfill industries.
